That guy was a treat. There's a 3rd party who has it listed for him. You reach out to them and then they give you the contact number of the owner. I had asked the company about their service and I remember it being VERY expensive that I had to stop myself from laughing out loud.
But yeah, I contacted the guy via text and his response to my initial inquiry was "Are you another one just trying to steal this car away from me?" Great start. Car has 6K more miles on it now, which is still low mileage, but he was very adamant about "what he had." He won't be selling it anytime soon in my opinion and he had no interest in hearing about my low mileage comps. That's fine and I moved on.
I'll pay a premium for the right car in a heartbeat, but I'm going to be a realistic about that premium. If I'm paying for a finder's fee on top of a premium that should give you an idea of how serious I am. But say someone has THE car I'm looking with every single box checked. If they think I'm going to buy it for $30K then they're mistaken. Someone may buy it, but it won't be me.
