yes it would be nice to have a dipstick. cars that do have a dipstick comes with serviceable pcv system. I suspect bmw wanted to go with a sealed ccv system for emissions. Oil given enough time will deteriorate anything.
After driving mostly sports car for most of my life when i purchased my first bmw the first thing that came into mind was this car was designed for old ladies. Systems information in the idrive "OK" oh everything OK so it must be OK. but its not OK..
