If you deformed the slot, it can be tricky to reinstall. Take a look at the slot and if there are any areas that are narrow, insert a flat bladed screwdriver and twist back and forth to open it back up a little. If that fails, the rubber piece the trim sits in will come out too. It can be pried out (carefully). Make sure you don't pry against the top of the door, without something to protect the paint.
