OP, did you ever figure this out? I just installed my PDX-5 last night and I think I have the exact same problem.
I hear "hiss" as soon as I tune up the volume > 0, if volume is 0, I don't hear it.
The noise is constant as op described, won't change with rpm, but I did notice that if I step on the brake, it is louder. Help please.
