So, after much deliberation, and waiting on hold trying to talk to BMW warranty for 15 minutes, I got a call from WarrantyWise.
They had picked up my online quotation, and offered to talk it through with me, and maybe sort out a better deal.
I've ended up with their 8/80 plan (up to 8 years old or 80000 miles), which covers all of the driveline, plus most of the rest, and they upgraded me to cover the "emissions" which includes the cat for an extra 7 quid. (They had already upgraded me to the 8/80 plan from the 10/100 plan as the car was only 3 months over the age limit, and way under on the mileage)
All of that comes out at £47.49 per month, less than BMW wanted for the driveline only. (£100 per hour labour rate, £100 excess, £5000 single claim)
They weren't pushy at all, and were very helpful and efficient. We'll see how it turns out
