My 2 cents.
I think sooo much of this lag or laziness we feel is directly related to the software adaption in the engine response and transmission response.
Lately my car too is feeling soft or lazy, but the last two plus tank fulls have all been kind gentle miles. However, last month I did an autocross and half way into the day the car WOKE up. For a week or so after the car was just a beast, raw and responsive. Too bad we can't code out some of these adaptions or have a Sport button like the E46 M3 which reverts to raw direct feel.
