Its not a placebo effect. If you drive a stock E9X 6MT it feels like crap. Drive one with a shorter weighted knob and you can feel a very significant improvement. Will it be as good as a short shifter? Probably not, but to say that it doesn't improve the feel of the transmission is far from true.
