Depends on how valuable your time is I guess. It is possibly cheaper to do defensive driving if you're eligible, but I prefer the easier route of having an attorney get everything dismissed (or at least a reduced fine and off my driving record). In my mis-spent youth I racked up a billion tickets and still have a spotless record thanks to some well-spent dollars with good traffic attorneys
I did defensive driving once a few years ago for a ticket that was legitimately deserved. The rest were BS things like speeding 2 MPH over the limit, etc.
If nothing else, I enjoy the satisfaction of that cop getting his/her BS ticket thrown out
