If you want an upgrade, get the FatCat Motorsports bumpstops and some Rancho boots. Better on the bumps than stock. As noted above, KYB AGX's can be had for less than $300 on eBay. That's what I did and haven't had a problem. Having the adjustable knob makes them much more versatile. Otherwise the KYB GR2's are ok from what I've read.
As an aside, since you'll have the wheels off anyway, you could replace the brake pads.
Shocks will make the biggest difference by far. If you're money is tight I'd just do shocks and boots and leave it at that.
