Timing and knowing what gear to go into is key when it comes to rev. matching. I personally don't think I would go from 5th gear to 3rd gear but I might depending the situation. I sometimes will be in 4th gear when slowing down and will take it out of 4th and put it back in then down shift to 3rd. I rarely will use the engine to slow the car down unless its really necessary. Driving a MT allows you to show off your driving skills, I would say it's truly an art and a special bond between man and the UDM. When done correctly its a freaking blast to drive and show off a little. After all it's a BMW and they are meant to be driven with a little swag.
