These cars are designed around 12-15k oil changes though, so that's not entirely unexpected.

The oil level can say it is okay, but the mileage or date to change it will set an alert. That is, unless the dealer reset the mileage without changing the oil, which would be extremely shady. You can reset the mileage whenever you want. Considering they said they did an oil change when the evidence shows otherwise, I'd be more inclined to think that is the case; however, you did say that the car indicated an oil change interval in excess of 30k.
