On start up and regular driving its fine but as soon as i need to give it some beans to join a motorway or overtake it just misfires and looses quite a few BHP's and runs rough for about 5 minutes. CEL light comes on flashing at me but this all lasts for about 5 minutes while driving and eventually clears itself, mystery!

Stealers quoted me £150 to just look at it, i'm sure it can be FIXED for that, just need to find out what the issue is, any ideas?
Clear the codes and wait for it to misfire again. If it still the same cylinder it is possible you have a leaky injector.
I've had misfires on all the cylinders and the O2 sensor mix too rich, for me it was a cracked valve cover and too much air was going into the engine. In you case, too lean might mean the reverse, an injector is leaking too much petrol into the cylinder. There are tons of good and detailed DIY videos on youtube on how to take the injectors out and check them.
DO NOT take it to BMW dealership. They quoted me 800£+ to change the bank1 O2 sensors. They said they will not investigate further until I change those. Turns out they had nothing to do with the misfires.
Ended up paying their 125£ for nothing. Find a good independent garage that specialise in BMWs for the stuff that you cannot do yourself.
