I have a 2012 E90 320i, and I was frustrated when I could not get my iPhone 5 to play via bluetooth. I had to purchase the "Y" cable for the iPhone 4 plus the 30-pin to lightning adapter for the iPhone 5. I can now listen to music and control the iPhone from my steering wheel. The original BMW "Y" cable is very expensive (they were chargin me about $100 in Costa Rica for one), you can find other options in Amazon for about $20.
