Well with some correctly bent pieces of coat hanger, I got the connector lined up, then couldn't get it back in to seat. After more poking / prodding it's back together, mostly.

At one point I considered moving the positive battery cable that runs over the top of the engine, and so I removed the 13mm nut on the passenger side. Unfortunately I dropped that bolt and can't find it. Tomorrow I'll remove the belly pan to get the nut.

I think I can "almost" get it done, but need the car for the weekend. Next week is another story.

The saga continues.
