I've got a similar predicament with my dishwasher (8 yr old Bosch), very temperamental at the minute, a local guy came out to look at it. He gave me a top tip and after a couple of weeks (drying out) it started working again, he said if it happens again it's "XYZ" and not worth repairing. Didn't charge me but left his sticker on the machine for future business (he did live half a mile away if that perhaps helped!!).

I know I can get a new one for £300-400 (or even a new but damaged one from specialist places on eBay as it lives in a cupboard anyway for £150-200). Just biding my time at the minute and hoping it doesn't go completely tits-up on Christmas Eve.
