i just did this mod, and my air box still got the zig zag thing like yours, but i think its fine as long as no more fiber of the charcoal filter left.
i didn't disconnect the sensor, cause i can't get it off the connector, so i just take it off from the airbox while still connected and put it back again when i install my air box back.
