using the swissvax grinding pad doesn't wear the leather, it just removes the peices that are raised from wear, restoring the original finish. you could rub the grinding pad on your hand and it's pretty gentle. Similar to 3000 grit sand paper that you would use when finishing a wetsand on a car.
