I think it varies. Currently, it says that my car is at the VPC, which seems to be accurate. The 800 number still says that it's in transit ironically.
The trucking company gets an dispatched electronically once the car is released by BMW, so that's your best indication of when the car is on it's way to your dealer. As of yesterday morning, my car still hasn't been released.
