Is a 17x9 et30 too aggressive on a Pre-LCI RWD wagon? Assuming a 255 tire all around, is 8.5 actually a better option?
17x9" ET30 with 255/40-17 is actually a direct fit on stock suspension or lowering springs, and would be our recommendation for your wagon. Certain coilover setups will require front spacers however.

The 8.5" ET35 can also be used as a more conservative option, but the 9" ET30 fits so well that there's really no reason go with the 8.5" ET35.

Regarding the face profiles: Because of the variation we don’t have definitive profile numbers at this time, but your assumption is correct. 17x8.5" ET35 would be pretty similar to a profile 2.

Nice thanks Dylan, looks like a 17x9 et30 square is the way I'll be going, it's on stock suspension but might get Koni actives and some m sport springs down the line.

Would I need all new bolts all around? Would you recommend spacers in the rear?

Probably would go with a 255/40-17, I've had good luck with the hankook v12 in that same size before as a decent budget summer tire.
