There is a DIY on datalogging with Cobb, if you search for it you should find it easily. Apparantly the guy that wrote it is banned, but if you need any help with logging or reading a log i'll be glad to help.

The car isn't going to blow up if it doesn't like the map, it just wont run as well as it could. Timing corrections are the normal result of an over aggressive but the occassional correction isn't a big deal or something to worry about.

Running a sport map on 93 octane is normally a good way to ensure the car is running well, but not a guarantee. That's where logging comes in.
