Having had a bad experience last winter - stuck in snow and spinning on m2. I am intending to buy a set of snow chains approx £100 and buy slightly used snow tyres from ebay £70 - 150 and have them put on my current alloys locally £20 + £20 to reverse in the spring.
This seems a reasonably priced option and I cant see any particular advantage in having additional wheels.

We are not talking about snow tyres, we are talking about cold weather tyres, which provide shorter braking distances in cold weather, be it ice, snow rain or in the dry.
