Rod bearings are a wear item.
Your rod bearings must've been on its way out.
My theory is some debris or air that got in during OFHG change must've put a nail on the coffin of your dying rod bearings.
How can I put lol as answer under all of these bullet points? Especially on the 100k high mileage oh wow ....
