I've been monitoring my gas mileage more closely after the prices went over $3/gallon. I have 7,200 miles on my car and average 23-24 mpg when I carefully monitor my rpm's and drive conservatively. I've tried a few full tanks where I drive how it feels comfortable and while not very aggressively, it is spirited driving. I get about 18mpg. And that's with a half and half commute to work (highway and city evenly). To get the numbers the EPA sets (or whomever), you really need to drive with constant attention to the tach needle. You need to put the car in neutral 1/4 mile before a freeway exit. You can't go anywhere near the 4k rpm valvetronic mark. You need to drive like an old lady to get this type of gas mileage. Is it possible? Yes. Is it fun? NO!
