We've got the Ryobi 2300psi unit from Home Depot. Works great for foam gun and rinsing wheels/wheel Wells/paintwork. Makes bug & tar removal much easier.
If you've got a crappy repaint, maybe you can damage the paint with a pressure washer, but BMW factory paint - no way.
Just keep the nozzle about a foot or more away and you'll be fine.
