I had major problems with other techniques....hammered, pried, air hammered, pulled; mucho penetrating silicone lube. Zero effect.
But after trying your approach, the strut simply and easily lifted out on the first try!!!

glad it worked for you too. I remember the first time I did the job it was a PITA with a small prybar, then I heard about the socket adapter from somewhere, and it worked great! I've used this method 3 times now! you just have to buy a new one after a few uses, but at least they're cheap
