There has been a lot of media buzz about Tesla conquest sales from former BMW owners.

BMW's US sales are up in 2018 coming off a ~10% drop in 2016 and another 2.5% drop in 2017 - important facts to keep in perspective. It remains to be seen whether they will ever recover.

While the idea that Tesla can single-handedly oust BMW and the other leading luxury makes in the US is probably not realistic, it is clear that they do pose some threat. BMW, like most every other automaker, is investing heavily in electric and electrified vehicles that they plan bring to market in the next 7 to 8 years. A lot can happen in that time. We are at a pivotal point in the history of the automobile, and BMW seems to find itself in the spotlight.
