That's generally how it's supposed to work. Paddles should shift in D but automatic will take back control if you're not actively shifting. DS you remain in control (with paddles) but car will downshift automatically as you lose revs (downshift to M2 at stop). Will also not let you damage the tranny by shifting for you if you hit redline.
