You can get it fixed for around $90+ shipping if it does go bad. One method I've been using is to open the trunk stick a rag in the bottom latch to prevent it from locking, lock the car and keep the key out of range, wait 20 mins for the car to sleep then disconnect the battery. Not sure if it actually works as I've only tried it once but it's worth a try
