That is just how modern cars are, they have great performance, but it can't be attained at average or better reliability; physics just doesn't allow it.
It sounds like your 335i has seen better days, or was just not built well, which just happens sometimes with mass-produced products despite the QA efforts to avoid it.

Really appreciate the thought-out answer, instead of just roasting me like everyone else. You're definitely right though. Test drove the m4 this morning and loved everything about it. but not much faster than my 335i.
