However, they needed replacing as the shoes were pretty much at metal. Whether that is the cause of your noise or not, it's probably about time to change parking brakes on your 2006 unless it's a garage queen or something.

I got Centric shoes, which were fine. I also got a Centric parking brake rebuild kit, which consisted of springs, camlocks for holding the shoes down and the adjuster ...thing. That kit looked lowgrade and I was leery to use it, but tried anyway. The camlock broke almost immediately in the course of trying to lock the shoes down. Total junk. Luckily there was nothing wrong with the old parking brake hardware.
