I guess this "electronically slows the spinning inside rear wheel" can mean both DTC and electronic diff. I have no facts but I'm leaning towards the DTC. This functionality is implemented in 335i, too (since march 2007 I guess) and it causes the fact this is the first car which wears down the real brake pads faster like the fronts.
Before further argueing go and get exact facts from BMW or some educated dealers, this is all only speculations and unsupported guesses on both fronts.
