+1 for Warranty Direct.
When I bought my e90 330i the dealer threw in Warranty Direct cover. I was impressed enough to renew it for another year.
There are limitations to the cover (depending on what you pay, on my cover they only cover £50 ph labour or diagnostic fees) but you can take the car to a garage of your choice.
My local garage don't like to deal with warranty companies so I just get the diagnostic information and quote from the garage and pass it on to WD. Then come payment I pay the garage and WD reimburse me the amount we've agreed. That way I deal with WD, the garage deal with me and I don't end up paying the full whack for repairs.
