It is a SULEV-II complaint engine and is not diesel. From what I understand, the N51 is the engine in 328s that are shipped to NY, CA, VT, MA, ME. Basically it adds an extra cat and makes some other changes to meet stricter emissions guidelines.

Yo thanks for the info! Big help! Silly of me to think its a diesel......i concerntrated on the codes later! Anyway , I thought it was gonna be a third engine in the 3 series line up thats gonna be totally economical...and displace 2.5 litr i6. Anyway, thanks bro!
