Changing the CAS and DME once they are paired together is a 20 minute affair... an MSD81 is just as easy to program, and is worry free. The CAS has to be programmed to the new DME, so they can talk to each other (they use an encryption key for security purposes), and the car won't start unless they are paired. You can keep your cas and keys if you program it to the new DME... Guy from the N54 board does this for a living and it's not expensive either, he did mine I highly recommend it.

If you have MHD running on the MSD80 DME, I would just let it go and run with it. My other 335i I had 3 years ago ran like a champ with the old DME and Jb4, never had a problem with the DME...
