Maybe it's a regional thing then. I have a 2006 330i E90 and mine displays the set speed on the display when I hit the control stalk to activate the cruise control, it also puts a little bar on the analog speedo on the mileage I'm set at until I either change speed or turn it off. It also shows me the display when I use the stalk to adjust the cruise control speed, either adjusting up or down.
