I wonder what the protocols are for when they can and cant exceed the speed of sound. No breaking the sound barrier over populated areas, I think is a general rule the military follows. But does that go out the window in some sort of emergency? At top speed that's what, maybe a 7 or 8 minute flight? Scrambles my brain just thinking about it thats so fast!

I sat air defense alert for three years in Europe in the F-4. We were never cleared or required to go supersonic when launched.
Even at the speed of sound it would still take 15 minutes to go 200 miles (~767 miles per hour)
