your dad is completely right.
especially if he's the one that has to pay for it, and it's subsequent maintenance/repair.
you know what solves this problem? getting a job and having your own money, then you can buy anything you like.
When I was 16 I bought my own car, paid for my own repairs/gas/insurance.
