I was spending about $50k per year between racing and test days on my E30 which is cheaper to run than an E90. Then I started a driver development program doing my own events with private clients, then I was spending about $300k per year. That is why I run a tally per hour, many parts have a maintenance cycle of hours expected and I had to keep a spreadsheet of each car and hours used on given parts.
My best advice is set a budget of how much you are will to spend per month or year and stick to it. Do not rationalize with yourself or you will start telling your self you would save money buying a truck, trailer and race car if you sold your E90. Trust me, this is how it starts.
