BMW has used brake wear sensors since the early 80s.. it's time tested, not some new gimmick.
This was a common problem for 07's. I searched the forum and found out its relatively common. The sensors aren't the problem, the electronics the sensors are plugged into is the problem. The sensor does nothing but mechanically break a circuit when worn thru by the rotor. All modern cars use the same principle. Only BMW flashes you warnings and requires you to reset the system when the circuit isn't even close to being tripped.
