Most people who do not have to parallel park regularly won't understand the need for these types of tires. Its easy for people to say they've never scratched a wheel when they parallel park once in a blue moon. For someone like me, who drives into Washington DC everyday and has to park on the street, I parallel park 2-4 times a day.
That being said, I don't have Rim Protector Tires, nor have I curb rashed any of my wheels (at least on my e92!) so while these may offer the tiniest bit of wheel insurance, the best insurance is patience and a bit of skill.
