Skip Barber, too -- but I was driving that way long before I took his courses.

I'll do heel-and-toe downshifts on a closed course but I don't drive that way on a daily basis on the street and if I expect a transmission to last me 100k plus miles.

My wife used to do the "downshift" thing for toll plazas on the Parkway and it irked me no end.

She rarely managed to match the revs with the speed and the car did not sound/feel "happy" when she did it. The end result was that I "volunteer" to do all the driving when it involves one of my cars.

Maybe that was her intention.
