A lot of part are interchangeable, and not only between BMW but also other make and models, to cut down cost on research and development. BMW also doesn't really do drastic changes from platform to platform either.
For example:
Brakes on e36, e46, e90 and f30 are all interchangeable, especially in the front, non M models in particular.
Same with control arms starting with the e30, to e36 and e46. The e90 and f30 are different.
A lot of them are hybrids, look at the 1m, front from e90 and rear from e46
