I guess I should try following the directions given by the ebay seller.
Maybe it does work? Just not with NCS expert? Ok, guess I have two approaches to try.

The chord lights on solid red when plugged in to the USB jack.
The "board" is green, in case you were curious.
Some discussion on the Amazon feedback stating that for DCAN+K chords with the "green" boards are sometimes good, "white" mostly bad, and another color rare?
