You can use either a K/D can cable or an Icom cable for Ista D and P
but its recommended to use and Icom cable with Ista P.
Some people come out OK with a K/D can cable on Ista P
but it seems like kind of a toss up if it will work .
Icom cable actually has memory and processor I believe.
Its been noted the a K/D can cable will not program Most Bus
Modules on cars made after 3/07

Most people here use the K/D can cable and are only modifying
one module at a time.
What were you trying to do ?
Usually just updating the software in the car does
not produce much in noticeable results.
