Not correct, you'll see gains, but not nearly as much as with the software. on a 325i, the biggest gains are down low below 2800rpm (+15 to +20 ft/lbs), and more moderate (~10whp) gains up top.
But there will be a hole in the powerband around 4000-4500, until you get the tune.
