Yes, it really was a great trip. Southern West Virginia is a fascinating place, and I could have easily spent quite a bit more time there.
I meant to visit Coalwood, to see the ruins of the old school there, but I got mixed up in Welch and completely missed my side trip. Moreover, I later learned about Homer Hickam, Jr. and the
Rocket Boys story, which took place in and around Coalwood (and was featured in the movie "October Sky."
So, as I said in the prior post, I'll be back!
