Apologies for resurrecting this great thread - I'm keen to replace my 2011 E90 auto shifter and very tempted to go for the m5 option, however looking at the video that Delmarco posted, it looks like that could be a good compromise option. My missus struggles with left/right at the best of times, so the m5 shifter with the pattern of letters would certainly confuse her
I can't see any posts of anyone trying to fit one of these newer illuminated versions of the original style shifter, so does anyone happen to know of it would physically fit? It looks equally as tall as my original shifter so would no doubt require the stalk to be cut down a bit, but the illuminated lights wwould be correctly layer out and it retains the original trigger lock....
