FPO - Regen wont work, what mileage have you got on the motor?
Regen works for burning off the Soot caught by the DPF, But the by product of Soot is Carbon. Carbon cannot be burnt or cleaned with special fluid. You'll need to remove the DPF and send it away for a deep clean. Or if your brave enough have a big container and soak it in acid over night and wash it out the next day.
I've gone through our pain, it can be resolved quickly and not to costly either. Whilst your at it change the Thermostat is fairly easy to do!
