Another way to tell if they are fucked is to slam the breaks. Drive at about 10MPH and have someone watch you. Then slam the brakes in front of them and have them see if your front wheels shake.
I second the thrust rod bushing(Control arm Bushing), mine did the same thing.. once i hit 70 my car starts the subtle hum/vibration anything under it drove perfectly fine.
