The blue drain plug is used to drain the majority of coolant but TIS and other manuals also state to loosen the #2 hose off of the thermostat to drain the engine block. The thing is that plastic fitting and hose are impossible to get off and on the xi model the back of the thermostat with the standard hose clamp is inaccessible. Just trying to get as much of the old coolant out as possible.
